北京服装学院始建于1959年，是中国唯一以服装命名，艺工为主，艺、工、经、管等多学科协调发展，具有鲜明办学特色的全日制普通高等学校（公立）。学校现有在校生8000余人，设有服装艺术与工程学院、材料科学与工程学院、艺术设计学院、商学院、信息工程学院、外语系、造型艺术系、基础教学部、计算机信息中心，以及研究生部、国际学院、继续教育学院。有28个本科专业，4个双学位专业点，8个一级学科硕士授权点、1个硕士专业学位授权点、以及“中国传统服饰文化的抢救、传承与设计创新”国家特殊需求博士人才培养项目。有1个北京市重点建设一级学科、3个北京市重点建设二级学科、5个市级科研机构、全国“十佳”特色博物馆之一的民族服饰博物馆及中关村科学城第四批建设项目——服饰时尚设计产业创新园。

学校秉承“求是创新、学以致用”的办学理念，坚持以本科教育为主，积极发展研究生、留学生和继续教育，形成了以本科为主的多层次办学格局。建立了“艺术教育与工程教育、管理教育相结合，民族服饰文化与现代设计理念相结合，理论教学与实践教学相结合”的现代服装教学体系。

学校积极为经济和社会发展服务，圆满完成了2008年北京奥运会、残奥会制服、火炬接力服装、中国运动员领奖服、颁奖礼仪服之“青花瓷”系列、残奥会入场服等设计，以及“神七”、“神九”、“神十”航天服饰及舱内用鞋设计，建国60周年群众游行方队和志愿者的服装设计，广州亚运会颁奖礼仪服装设计，深圳大运会颁奖礼仪服装设计以及北京市中小学校服、两代学位服等设计研发工作。2012年，与国内三所一流艺术院校共同组建并培育“中国民族艺术传承与传播中心”，旨在探索并建立具有创新能力的人才培养机制，共同推进民族艺术的传承。近三年来，艺术类学生获“红点奖”、“汉帛杯”、“金犊奖”等国际国内大赛奖项656项，获奖数量和层次居国内同类院校前列。

国际学院简介

北京服装学院国际学院是学校外国留学生事务的综合管理和服务部门，负责各类外国留学生（学历生和非学历生）的招生咨询、签证事务、学生活动、日常管理、数据统计等工作，负责起草和制订与留学生招生和培养相关的战略规划和管理制度，以及其它与留学生相关的涉外管理和服务工作。国际学院自1997年起开始招收外国留学生和港澳台侨学生，招生专业包括服装与服饰设计、表演（服装表演与品牌推广）、视觉传达设计、环境艺术设计、产品设计、绘画、雕塑、国际经济与贸易20余个研究生和本科专业以及新汉语水平HSK、汉语言长短期培训，共培养了来自美国、英国、法国、德国、意大利、加拿大、澳大利亚、俄罗斯、哈萨克斯坦、蒙古、韩国、乌克兰、日本、丹麦、伊朗、沙特阿拉伯、加纳、埃塞俄比亚、阿根廷、智利等40多个国家以及港澳台地区的数千名外国留学生和港澳台侨学生。

Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT) is China’s premiere educational facility associated with fashion, mainly specializing in art and technology. With defining characteristics, BIFT is a full-time higher education institution where art, technology, economics, management and other convergent disciplines can successfully interact. The institute was founded in 1959, now it has more than 8,000 students and is composed of School of Fashion and Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Art and Design, School of Business, School of Information Engineering, Foreign Language Department, the Department of Plastic Arts, the Department of Ideological and Political Theory, Division of Basic Courses, Center for Computer Science Teaching, Graduate School, School of International Education and the School of Continuing Education. There are 28 basic undergraduate specializations, 4 double-major specializations, 8 first-grade master disciplines and 1 master degree specialization and 1 PhD Research Program on “Rescue, heritage and Innovation of Chinese Traditional Costume Culture” in BIFT. The institution has 1 Beijing Key Construction First-grade Discipline, 3 Beijing Key Construction Second-grade disciplines, 5 municipal-level scientific research institutes and an Ethnic Costume Museum which is one of the top ten specialized museums in China, as well as BIFT PARK----one of the fourth batch of Zhongguancun Science City construction projects.

Following the visionary administrative philosophy of “Seeking Truth and Innovation, Applying Theory to Practice”, BIFT sets up its fashion teaching system of combining art education and engineering education with sound business administration, integrating ethnic fashion culture with contemporary design philosophy, and realizing theory in practice.

Our institute actively serves the function of promoting economic and social development. The clothing for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Olympic torch bearers, Chinese medal winners, as well as the uniforms for Paralympic Games, award ceremony dresses----the series of “Green Flower Porcelain” and the Paralympic Games admission clothing are designed by our institute. We also participated in designing the space suits for the astronauts in Shenzhou Seven/Nine/Ten Spacecraft, including the design of the space suits and the shoes worn in the Spacecraft. BIFT has successfully fulfilled the fashion research and design for the mass parade and volunteers in the 60th National Anniversary of PRC. The award ceremony dresses for Asian Game and Shenzhen Universiade were also designed by us. Moreover, the faculty of our institute has participated in the fashion research and design for primary and middle school uniforms in Beijing City and the two generations of academic costume. In 2012, BIFT set up the "China National Arts and Culture Inheritance and Communication Center" jointly with the three leading national art institutions, aiming to explore and establish the training mechanism of talents cultivation and realize the heritage of national art. In the recent three years, the art major students have earned 656 national and international competition awards, with the German Red Dot Design Award, Hempel Cup Award and the Times Young Creative Award as the typical ones.

BIFT constantly operates on the principle of rigor, diligence, realism and creativity, and is developing into a Talented Designers Training Center of the Capital Fashion Industry, a Clothing Science and Technology Research and Development Center, and a Fashion Culture Communication Center.

Introduction of the School of International Education (SIE)

The School of International Education of BIFT is a comprehensive management department of the foreign student affairs and services. Since 1997, the SIE of BIFT has been providing bachelor degree programs in fashion design, Fashion Performance (Modelling & Brand Promotion), visual communication, environmental design, product design, painting, sculpture art design, international trade and Chinese language training courses for thousands of international students from the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Australia, Russia, Kazakhstan , Mongolia ,Korea, Ukraine, Japan, Denmark, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Ethiopia, Argentina, Chile, etc. and Chinese students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
